Mice can catch on to your attempts to kill them. If you use snap traps, for instance, they will become wary when they see other mice caught in them. If an adult mouse skirts a trap because it knows there’s danger there, its young will follow the example and grow up wary of snap traps. You could end up with a house full of mice that avoid your traps.

A more thorough approach is to use a combination of snap traps and poison bait. You will need to wipe out 100 percent of a population so that younger, more wary generations won’t establish a foothold.
