Paving and decking are great time savers because they are practically maintenance-free – no mowing, watering or feeding involved!
- Look for paving material that's non-slip, weather- and stain-resistant and that doesn't scratch. By choosing a durable surface that is easy to maintain, you'll save both time and money.
- If your outdoor living area is only used during the warmer months, give the area a quick spring cleaning at the end of winter.
- Spruce up paving or decking with a high-pressure cleaner (water restrictions permitting) or give it a quick wash using a bucket and a stiff outdoor broom. During the rest of the warmer months, a daily sweep with a broom is all that's needed.
- Re-oil, re-stain or repaint the external woodwork once a year to extend its life.
- Treat surfaces that are damp and shaded in winter to avoid the build-up of moss, which can make paving or decking dangerously slippery after rain. To make the most of your time, choose an anti-moss treatment that needs to be applied only once a year.
If you opt to use paving or decking, you will save yourself both time and money. However, be sure to follow the above-listed tips to ensure that you do provide the minimal maintenance that is required.
