Hire tools are generally both heavy and powerful. This means that they can also be dangerous as well. So, when purchasing equipment, make sure that you feel confident about using the equipment before leaving the shop and be sure to always use as directed.

Safety gear

Always ask for the right safety gear. For cutting and chopping tools, wear strong gloves and stout shoes, or boots with steel toecaps and a good grip. With noisy machines, ask for ear defenders to protect your hearing. With equipment that throws up dust or particles, protect your eyes with safety goggles, or a face shield, and a dust mask to prevent inhalation. A safety helmet is a wise precaution when cutting overhead branches that could potentially fall. If using chemicals, ask for gloves and waterproof overalls.

Clear the work area

Always make sure that the work area is clear of both debris and bystanders and make sure to keep children and pets well away. Also, be sure not to allow others to distract you while using powered tools and cutting tools in particular.

After use

Always switch off powered tools and unplug electric ones after use. Never leave them running when unattended or when making adjustments or changing blades.
