Absorb the excess with a tampon. Whether it’s a lawn mower, leaf blower, weed eater, or some other small internal combustion engine, if you overfill the tank, you risk spilling gasoline in your garage or on your driveway when you move the engine or try to replace the cap. And then you’ve got a smelly, dangerous situation on your hands. Quick! Run and grab an unused tampon—yes, a tampon—and carefully insert it in the overfilled tank. In a matter of seconds, it will absorb the excess fluid. Just make sure the saturated tampon does not expand so much that it sticks in the tank opening. And be careful in disposing of it. It’s best to let it dry out first before putting it in a garbage can or other enclosed space.
